SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said on Wednesday the government would probe the nexus between KSU and HNLC.
The statement comes two days after HNLC threatened to supply explosives to KSU members to intensify the protest against the railway project in Ri Bhoi.
Speaking to the media after the meeting of the State Security Commission, Sangma said KSU activists should stop all illegal activities and “demonstrate maturity and responsibility” if they want a dialogue with the government.
“We did not expect KSU to behave like an organisation that indulges in violence because we anticipate that it will engage in dialogue and express its concerns on the right platform and not indulge in arson, which is not the way,” he told reporters.
The government has asked the internal security apparatus to probe if there is a nexus between KSU and HNLC.
“The police are on the job to delve deeper and find out what is happening. The whole system is activated to deal with the situation and the State Commission was reassured that the internal security apparatus is capable of dealing with the challenges,” Sangma said.
Asserting that the government would hold talks with only responsible people, the chief minister said, “They (KSU members) must demonstrate a sense of responsibility and restrain themselves from these kinds of activities. The leadership should take responsibility for the acts of arson since the organisation claims to stand for the larger good of the State and its people.”
Entry/exit points
Commenting on the comprehensive mechanisms, the chief minister maintained that tackling influx and illegal immigration is not limited to entry/exit point as there are other measures put in place through legislations etc.
However, he added that the procedure takes time as it is has to be in sync with the issue of transparency which has resulted in the delay in implementation.
Stating that entry/exit points are identified in certain locations, Sangma said that the movements of illegal migrants through roads are covered through the entry/exit point.
As for the railway project at Byrnihat which was halted, he pointed out that railway station will be further provided with such kind of facilities which actually addresses the concerns.
“There will be similar kind of facility created at the railway station. Direction has already been given to provide this kind of infrastructure in every place where there will be a railway station,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sangma said that the meeting discussed issues of how to tackle the law and order situation relating to activities of terrorist organisations and banned outfits but he refused to divulge details.
