SHILLONG: Fresh incidents of petrol bomb attacks have been reported in the city that invited condemnation from all quarters.
After the attack on a house at Umsohsun, there was a similar incident at Mawlonghat where a hardware shop was targeted on Thursday.
When contacted, East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak said, “Some miscreants came in a vehicle and lobbed kerosene bomb at a hardware shop. However, it did not explode. No arrests were made.”
Meanwhile, the Dorbar Shnong of Umsohsun has strongly condemned the petrol bomb attack on the house of the Sarafs around 9.45pm on Wednesday.
In a press statement issued here, headman of Umsohsun P.J Sawian urged police to arrest the culprits soon.
BJP member Manas Chaudhuri said the Sarafs are old residents of Shillong and is one of the few non-Khasi families left in the area.
“I hope all right thinking people irrespective of their community, loyalty will rise against such attempts to create panic, law and order situation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nikhil Saraf, son of Kailash Saraf, told The Shillong Times, “It (the incident) happened at a time when people were still awake. There was no major damage as we received help from the neighbours.”
The car that was damaged in the petrol bomb incident belonged to the Saraf’s neighbour, Kyrshan War.
It is not the first time that the Sarafs’ residence was targeted by miscreants.
Nikhil said the last incident occurred almost one year ago when some agitation took place in which miscreants put petrol bomb in a sack and hurled it at their residence.
