Guv presents medals to soldiers

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Governor, Banwarilal Purohit presented Seven Governor’s Gold Medals and Seven Governor’s Silver Medals to Assam Rifles personnel in recognition to their meritorious service and acts of bravery in counter terrorists operation at the Assam Rifles Investiture Ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, Shillong on Thursday.
The Investiture Cere-mony was also attended by Y. Tsering, Additional Chief Secretary, Ram Muivah, Secretary, NEC, K. N. Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Director General Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan and Senior Army officials among others.
In his address, the Governor praised the yeoman service and dedication to duty exhibited by the Assam Rifles over the past 182 years while operating in the rugged and inhospitable terrain of the North East.
He also paid glowing tributes to the sacrifices made by the gallant soldiers of Assam Rifles and exhorted them to continue the excellent work.
The Governor’s Gold and Silver Medal was instituted in the year 1957 and are awarded as recognition for acts of gallantry and meritorious service by the personnel of Assam Rifles in the North Eastern states.
