KSU meets SBI head over students’ loan

NONGSTOIN: The West Khasi Hills unit of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) met the chief manager of SBI Nongstoin on Friday over education loans after many students were denied the benefit.
The manager, S. Lyngdoh, said the bank refused loan to those attending courses on ANM and GNM as the bank found that the candidates did not have employment and would find it difficult to return the loans.
“The bank will sponsor if the students get admitted to a renowned institute in the country or the state,” Lyngdoh said and added that the bank is ready to finance those who want to attend the skill development programme.
Ellen Syiemlieh, Education Secretary of the KSU, urged Lyngdoh to install another ATM because till now Nongstoin have only one SBI ATM and it was too congested.
