Manipur ambush: Militant outfit claims responsibility

Imphal:  Proscribed outfit Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) has claimed responsibility for June 15 attack in Ukhrul district that killed an Assam Rifles jawan and injured three others.
The outfit claimed to have carried out Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast at Kashung village in Ukhrul district, a statement issued by the outfit claimed. A jawan was killed and three others were injured when Assam Rifles personnel were ambushed by militants on June 15 at Kashung village in Manipur’s Ukhrul district.
According to police, the ultras had carried out an IED blast at the village, killing one and injuring three Assam Rifles jawans.
Meanwhile, the Manipur police has arrested three militants of United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) for smuggling arms and ammunition.
Acting on a tip-off, the trio were arrested from a hotel at Jiribam bazaar in Jiribam district, police said, adding that 15 gram of heroin and mobile phones were seized from their possession.
Those arrested have confessed of their involvement in smuggling arms, ammunition and drugs and investigation is underway, police said. (PTI)
