SHILONG: Pro- vice chancellor of NEHU, Henry Lamin said that the agitating teachers’ intention is to exploit the tribal people in the region.
He said, “After much observation, the Central Government had resolved to grant financial assistance to all central universities uniformly.
Instead it found out that the teachers demand HASA as their birth right which is wrong.”
Lamin asserted that the whole intention of NEHUTA is to create chaos, destabilise the various activities of the University by a handful vested interest to claim for the VC chair and exploit NEHU.
“The salary of the professor at present is not less than Rs 1.60 lakh. But these teachers are monsters as they want more in the name of dignity. These teachers want the university to go to the dogs,” he said. He further added that the teachers do not want the people of the State to be developed and does not want the development of NEHU.
Referring to personal vendetta of few teachers / EC members with the Vice-Chancellor’, Lamin said, “The actual issue of NEHUTA is not HASA but rather to destabilise the normal function of the university particularly when the exams are about to start very soon.”
Meanwhile, the NEHUTA, in continuation to ongoing protest and exposure of misrepresentation of facts and tampering with minutes of Academic Council and Executive Council organised a demonstration before the office of the Vice-Chancellor Prof. S.K. Srivastava on Friday.
Ignoring the serious case of defrauding minutes of statutory bodies, the Vice-Chancellor disappeared from the office.
It reasserts that continuation of Prof. S.K. Srivastava in the position of VC has undermined the dignity and prestige NEHU permanently.
NEHUTA asked for an explanation from the Vice-Chancellor in a week’s time so that his gross acts of violation of statutory provisions to the detriment of the employees of the university could be redeemed in a manner of restoring propriety.
In its assembly on Friday, the NEHUTA cautioned that a premier university cannot become a ‘kingdom of lies’.
The Teachers’ body pledges that it will do the rightful in upholding the highest standards of public morality by making an example out of Vice-Chancellor’s white lies and will carry out a democratic path of struggle by uniting every member of the university community.
Hence the NEHUTA, in upholding the highest standards of public morality categorically demands that the VC should immediately resign, as he has lost all moral and legal rights to continue in the office.
