SHILLONG: The Border Security Force troops in West Khasi Hills recovered 144 cows late on Friday night.
In a statement issued on Saturday, BSF said the animals were seized in more than six separate incidents.
In Ganganagar, the BSF jawans spotted a group of 3-4 persons moving towards the international border with the cattle. When the troop moved towards them the men fled.
Fifty cattle worth more than Rs 7 lakh were seized. The border in Ganganagar is unfenced.
The BSF statement said the cattle were unloaded on Hill Road, 3 km away from the international border, and then were taken through the forested area to the neighbouring country.
In another incident, BSF troops at Purakhasia, South West Khasi Hills, seized 45 cattle during a special operation.
