JOWAI: As many as three Dorbar Shnong in Jowai have decided to hold a joint general meeting to deliberate on the issue of “illegal construction of a mosque” by the side of the Myntdu.
In a meeting held on Saturday, the Rangbah Shnong of Ladthadlaboh said, “Since the NGT (National Green Tribunal) has banned any sort of construction in the area where the “mosque” is slated to come up, the concerned people should honour the green court order,” he said and added that the joint dorbar will be held in a day or two.
The alleged construction by former MLA and Congress member Sayeedullah Nongrum came under scanner after the Jaintia Youth Federation pointed out that it violated the NGT order of prohibition on any building within 500 m of the river. The mosque is planned within 90m of the Myntdu.
Nongrum, however, had said that he was ready to cooperate with the district administration on the matter and will respect the NGT verdict.
The meeting was convened by the Meghalaya People’s United Front (MPUF). Besides the Rangbah Shnong of Iawmusiang (Tympang Club), Newhill and Ladthadlaboh, the president of Synjuk ki Dorbar Shnong, Jaintia Hills was present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, the MPUF has said that it is mandatory to obtain NOC for purchase of land. The MPUF also said that NOC should not be issued without knowing the purpose for which it is being obtained.
