Bridge over Umiam river inaugurated

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday inaugurated a 60m bridge over Umiam River at Mawlai Umthlong- Nongpathaw in the presence of PWD (Roads) Minister M M Danggo and Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh among others.
The bridge was sanctioned under the Central Road Fund Scheme.
The chief minister also inaugurated the building and basketball court of Nongpathaw Secondary School at a function held on the school premises.
Dedicating the projects to the people of the area and the State as a whole, Sangma stated that it is the endeavour of the government to fulfill the aspirations of the citizens.
Praising the scenic beauty of Mawdun-Nongpathaw area, the chief minister said the cluster of villages in the area has huge tourism potential.
Sangma also urged upon all gathered to preserve and enhance the vegetative cover of the area even as he called for the need to go for organic farming.
He assured the residents that the government through concerned departments would help impart necessary training on making of organic manure.
Sangma also took the occasion to call upon all gathered to get themselves enrolled in Phase -III of the MHIS.
