SHILLONG: In a case of alleged nepotism, the lucrative business of collection of parking fee in prime areas in the city has been allotted to Steve Lyngdoh, brother of Urban Affairs Minister Ronnie V Lyngdoh.
Documents obtained through the RTI Act reveal that the contract of collecting parking fee in various areas of the city have been allotted to different people but the fees are being collected by Steve Lyngdoh.
The RTI reply given by the Shillong Municipal Board says that Bernard Dohkrud was awarded the tender for Motphran Parking Lot.
However, a letter from Dohkrud to the Shillong Municipal Board claims that Steve Lyngdoh, a resident of Laitumkhrah, is handling the collection of the parking fee for the Jaiaw Stand Parking Lot at Motphran.
The RTI documents also reveal that collection of parking fee from the roadside between Motphran and Qualapatty was allotted to Marchborn Nongsiej.
However, Nongsiej also wrote to the Board saying that he is not involved in the collection and Steve Lyngdoh was managing the same.
When contacted, the Urban Affairs minister dismissed the allegations as far from truth.
He, however, added that he would examine the matter for the sake of clarity.
Sources in the Shillong Municipal Board informed that the Board is contemplating to invite fresh tenders for parking spaces in the city.
