Over 6000 enrolled under MHIS III

SHILLONG: The enrollment drive for the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) III is running smoothly and so far 63994 numbers of household in the State have enrolled for the Scheme.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, CEO of MHIS, HM Shangpliang informed that altogether 886034 numbers of household in the State have to be enrolled for the Scheme, and the enrollment has been kicked off in all 11 districts.
The MHIS phase III will begin from July 1, and the insurance cover now has been increased from Rs 2 lakhs to Rs 2.8 lakhs. The maximum one time hospitalisation for critical care has also been increased to Rs 250000 from Rs 170000.
The MHIS Scheme this year also has an additional senior citizen cover of Rs 30000 per senior under RSBY category.
Shangpliang further informed that a maximum of five members of a family can be enrolled under one smart card and the data for MHIS III has been increased after taking the latest electoral roll of 2016.
This year, the enrollment fee is Rs 50.
In addition, hospitals have also been identified in Assam for secondary care treatment as well and the benefits are according to package rates.
The CEO further informed that there is an enhancement in package rates by 10 percent in order to ensure reduction out of pocket expenditure of patients.
Earlier, the Meghalaya government had signed an MoU with New India Assurance Company to roll out its enhance phase-III of MHIS-III for nearly 3 million people. 
The MHIS-III has been designed to fully integrate with the existing public health system in the state and will also significantly expand the number and quality of specialty and super specialty hospitals empanelled.
