SHILLONG: The youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that the Mukul Sangma-led State Government has misused the 100-day work under the rural job guarantee scheme.
In a media statement, President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Egenstar Kurkalang said some labourers were deprived of their earnings for months due to diversion of funds.
Kurkalang accused Chief Minister Mukul Sangma of misappropriating fund under MGNREGS and said ministers and MLAs should not inaugurate projects under the scheme.
The accusation comes two days after Sangma, whicle addressing a conference at NEHU, pushed village employment councils to achieve the 100-day guaranteed wages and introduce innovative and convergence measures to utilise the fund.
The government has recently earmarked Rs 5 lakh to each rural constituency under Chief Minister’s Rural Development Fund (CMSRDF) for 2016-2017.
Kurkalang said the distribution of the fund “is Sangma’s election ploy”.
“The chief minister has misled the people by combining the Rs 5 lakh under CMSRDF and MGNREGA,” he said and added that the Development Ministry never delays releasing funds.
