SHILLONG: As many as 45 personnel of the 5th police battalion of Meghalaya, serving in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills, are not being paid their salary regularly.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing in a statement issued to the media on Sunday claimed that it was reported that in the last week of May, they were paid the salary for the month of April. “This is creating hardship for them since they have families and children,” Kharshiing said.
She said the Government should not neglect them as some of them are even worried that they may have to pay fine for late payment of their children’s school fees. On inquiry by sources, the CSWO said it was reported that the salary is yet to be disbursed from Tura treasury office.
“The Government should ensure timely payment for the forces, especially those serving in difficult conditions,” the CSWO said.
Plight of security men
The CSWO said it also received complaints that some of the private security personnel working in ATMs under the Ranger Security Service Organisation, Mawlai, are not paid their salary for three to four months, and some even for six months
“This is a clear human rights violation and the State Government while issuing licence or permits should ensure these security organisations should give clear instructions that pay of the employees are not to be held back as this also amounts to cheating them and violating their right to life,” the statement added.
