Cong unlikely to take action against Dhar

SHILLONG: The Congress is unlikely to take action against Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, who is under scanner for projecting his brother-in-law to contest from Jowai, which is currently represented by Deputy Chief Minister R.C Laloo.
The Congress is going slow on the matter apprehending the repercussions it will have if any action is taken against Dhar since the Assembly elections are round the corner, a party source said.
When contacted over phone on Monday, MPCC president D.D Lapang did not respond to the call while Dhar said he was yet to receive any response from the Congress. “You should ask Lapang for this,” Dhar, who is out of station, said over phone.
Sources said any action against Dhar at his juncture will only affect the Congress with just seven months  left for the polls.
Sources close to Dhar said the minister and his brother Ngaitlang Dhar, who have political clout in Khasi and Jaintia Hills, are not bothered about any action by the Congress.
There are also media reports that both the brothers may not contest from the Congress in 2018 and so the party is adopting a wait-and-watch policy.
