SHILLONG: The A’chik Youth Council (AYC) has asked School Education and Literacy Minister Deborah Marak to order a probe into the poor construction of the building for Selsella Secondary School under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).
In a letter addressed to the Minister, AYC said on Monday that action should be taken against the contractor for the shoddy work.
The pressure group said the building was sanctioned for Selsella Secondary School under RMSA sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to improve infrastructure.
The project was allotted to Anando Saha, a resident of Singgimari in West Garo Hills.
“After seeing the work, we found that the project was not made as per the DPR and hence prior to completion of the project, the school building may collapse,” AYC said.
“The building is not safe for students and staff because substandard quality of corrugated sheets, poor quality of bricks and cement are being used. Moreover, the project was allotted by way of sub-contract, which is benami transaction and illegal,” AYC said.
The organisation said those who are involved should be booked under the Meghalaya (Benami Transactions Prohibition) Act, 1985, the Meghalaya (Benami Transactions Prohibition) Act, 2016 and other appropriate sections of the law.
After inquiry, the contractor should be blacklisted and his contract registration should be cancelled, the group demanded.
