SHILLONG: Meghalaya People’s United Front (MPUF), president, Dawanpoimi Laloo claimed to be the owner of a shop at China Bazaar, Jowai in West Jaintia Hills, however, he admitted that the asset was done without sale deed.
Earlier, his shop was inspected by members of Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) and the Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF) along with the officials of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) on the grounds of Benami practices at China Bazaar. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Laloo said, “The allegations of Benami against me are not true as I am the owner of the shop, Dawanpoimi Variety Shop.”
Interestingly, when asked whether he has collected the personal details of his employees, he was able to provide only the first name of his manager, who goes by the name, Ahmed and the name of the previous owner as Arashat from Uttar Pradesh.
When queried further, Laloo said, “I admit that I was wrong as I did not prepare the sale deed document while purchasing it.”
“I don’t know the name of the manager as I bought the shop on the first week of April this year and I hardly visit the shop except 4-5 times only,” he said.
He informed that he bought the shop at the cost of Rs 90,000.
