SHILLONG: The news of transfer of the current managing director of Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) has led to resentment among employees, the effect of which may be on school students.
The MTC workers’ union, which staged a pen down strike on Tuesday in protest against the transfer order of MD A. Nikhla, has decided to continue the strike on Wednesday.
The general secretary of the union, K Rumnong, said operations of school bus service will be suspended from Wednesday if the transfer order is not revoked. Earlier, the union had also petitioned the Chief Minister on the issue.
In a memorandum submitted in this regard, the union said Nikhla had in a short span of time checked leakage and pilferage of revenue of the corporation besides streamlining the accounts of the Meghalaya Helicopter Service right from its inception. “There has also been a reduction in the consumption of spare parts and diesel. Besides, steps have been taken to raise the standard of the school bus cell for the betterment of children,” the memorandum added.
