SHILLONG/JOWAI: More than 2000 residents and congregation of the Rymbai Presbyterian Church, at Rymbai village, East Jaintia Hills, took it upon themselves to start the repair work of a 5 km stretch of road left in a deplorable state for years by the State Government.
The initiative to repair the road was taken by the Church in collaboration with the village heads, under the leadership of the pastors and church elders.
Pastor-in-charge of the Rymbai Church, S.B Lyngdoh and Elder H.M Thoo said that this is the second time that the church congregation has come out to repair the road, the first being in 2001. “The dilapidated road was causing serious trouble to the villagers, especially the students. So, we took it upon our shoulders to start the repair work as no steps were taken by the government for many years,” said Lyngdoh.
The pastor further said, “The church receives no financial assistance from the local authorities or the state government for repairing the road.”
The road was last repaired during the tenure of former MLA Nehlang Lyngdoh.
