SHILLONG: Officials of the 7th Mile Weighbridge have alleged that it was the truckers who started the trouble in the weighbridge resulting in a scuffle and injuries to some Home Guard personnel and helpers.
It may be mentioned that a video of a trucker seen lying unconscious on the Jowai-Silchar Road after being allegedly beaten up by weighbridge officials in West Jaintia Hills had gone viral on Facebook.
While West Jaintia Hills SP R. Muthu ahd said that police registered a case and the truck drivers were arrested after the weighbridge owners filed an FIR, the concerned trucker, Ghulam Rassol of Leeran, Dachal, J&K, lodged a complaint that the weighbridge officials assaulted him and his helper Md. Shahazan Choudhary and threatened them with dire consequences.
K. Tynsong and H. Paswet, enforcement inspectors at 7th Mile Weighbridge (WJH), lodged a complaint that on June 26 noon, while they were on duty at the weighbridge one truck (JK-02BM-3886) fled away from the weighbridge.
The truck was intercepted at 8th Mile, and in order to bring the truck to 7th Mile, they took the challans and asked the driver to bring the truck to the weighbridge.
“On arrival at the weighbridge, the driver and the handyman shouted at the weighbridge staff, blocked the highway with their truck, being armed with iron bars they pelted stones at the weighbridge causing damage to furniture”.
They also instigated other truck operators to join them and in the process some Home Guard personnel and helpers sustained injuries.
In this connection, two trucks (JK-02BM-3886 & JK-02BL-3212) were detained and four persons, Ghulam Rasool, Md. Rafis, Md. Shazan Choudry and Md. Tallip Hussain were arrested.
