SHILLONG: The share of votes from MLAs and MPs of the State will be 3,144 for the presidential election scheduled for July 17.
While the vote share of 60 MLAs is 1020, that of 3 MPs, Conrad Sangma, Vincent Pala and Wansuk Syiem is 2124.
The value of vote of an individual MLA from Meghalaya is 17 each due to the small population size, while that of an MP, however, is 708 each which is the same all over the country.
Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Kharkongor said that the allotment of votes is based on the 1971 census.
The criteria was based on the 42nd amendment to the Constitution followed by the 84th amendment.
The change in the pattern of vote share will take place only in 2026.
During the polls, each MLA will be provided with one pink colour ballot paper each while the MPs will have green colour.
The Election Commission will also provide violet pens for the MLAs and MPs to mark their votes to the contesting candidates.
