Kohima, July 3 The Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has voiced out its deep concern over the present deplorable conditions of roads all over the state.
In a press statement, the CNTC demanded that the minister in-charge “wake up from his slumber and own full responsibility for the pathetic condition of the roads which are only worsening each passing day.” The CNTC further extended support to the demand of the Western Sumi Students’ Union (WSSU) for the repair of roads immediately. “Never before the state roads deteriorated to such appalling and awful condition as they are now today. The roads and bridges minister instead of blaming his engineers or contractors , should own up full responsibility to improve the condition of roads,” it said.
“It is his duty to ensure that every works are carried out properly and sincerely with good workmanship and quality works. Most of the roads are now in dilapidated conditions with water-logging, huge potholes and crater like holes everywhere around the state. There seems to be no tangible effort on art of the department and the Roads and Bridges minister,” the CNTC added.
The Council expressed concern that commuters of every kind are facing a lot of hardships and said “where lives are being endangered and some have even lost their lives. There was not a single person in the state who has not been dismayed by the road conditions,”.
The CNTC stated that the Roads and Building (R&B) minister and his department “should be embarrassed bypathetic road conditions and the department instead of giving justifications with feeble excuses like non-availability of fund, should pull up its socks and build good quality roads to the people.”
“It is known very well that adequate funds have been sanctioned by the Central Government for the same,” the CNTC claimed and demanded that the R&B minister and his department “show its accountability and prove their worth by properly repairing and maintaining whatever remains of the so-called roads now.” UNI
