NONGPOH: The northern unit of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) has decided to hold a peace rally in Ri Bhoi district on July 13 in the wake of the violent incidents over the railway project at Ronghona.
In a meeting of the HNYF executive committee on Saturday, it was decided that the rally would be taken out at 10am from its office at Umlyngkdait. NSCA Mini Stadium at Pahamsyiem will be the culminating point.
HNYF chief of Northern Region Marcus Marten told reporters that the federation was concerned about law and order as the public have to bear the brunt of the protests.
“HNYF has strongly opposed the Government’s apathy to take up this issue with the leaders of KSU and frontal NGOs of the State like FKJGP, HNYF, RBYF and CoRP. Imposition of Section 144 has badly affected the common man of the district and the State,” said Marten, adding that if the situation goes out of control, then curfew might be imposed “which will affect the public”.
