SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will convene a meeting at the Secretariat conference hall on Thursday to discuss the setting up of Mawlai C & RD Block.
Mawlai MLA Embhahlang Syiemlieh, members of Mawlai Town Dorbar, Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun, Mawlai circle members of Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), FKJGP and KSU will attend the meeting.
Meanwhile, the HYC, HNYF and FKJGP will hold a series of public meetings starting July 8 to seek public support and mount pressure on the state government to expedite the setting up of Mawlai Community & Rural Development (C & RD) Block.
Expressing concern over the ‘lackadaisical attitude’ of the state government, FKJGP Mawlai circle president Marbud Dkhar on Wednesday said, “The meetings will be held on July 8 at Mawlai Mawtawar, on July 10 at Mawlai Mawiong, on July 13 at Mawlai petrol pump and on July 15 at Mawlai Bus stop where we will take a resolution on this matter.”
HYC member Donboklang Kharlyngdoh said the chief minister in his budget speech in the Assembly in 2016 had announced government’s plan for creation of Mawlai C& RD block.
Pointing out that there was a long delay in setting
up of the Block, he said, “Two letters were sent to the Chief Minister on May 16 and June 14, respectively (on the issue of setting up of the Mawlai C&RD Block) but there is no response yet,” he said, adding that the 15-day ultimatum served to the state government lapsed on June 29.
It may be mentioned that the village council of Mawlai along with the Mawlai Town Dorbar have offered 3 acres of land at Mawlai Mawtawar to set up the office.
The organizations have also sought support from Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek and Nongthymmai legislator Jemino Mawthoh, who voiced their dissent over the setting up of the Block office at Mawlai.
While Hek wants the Block office to be set up at Mawpat, Mawthoh feels the office should be located in a spot feasible for people to travel to and fro.
