MAWKYRWAT: Police are on the lookout for a person identified as Wintor Iawphniaw from Mawsaw village, South West Khasi Hills, who absconded after raping a 23-year-old woman from the village. The victim is the cousin of the accused. According to the FIR filed by the relatives of the victim, the incident took placed on the morning of June 29.
The accused came to the house of the woman, who is a mother of two, and raped her.
After receiving the FIR, police registered a case under section 376/506 of IPC.
“The accused is on the run and efforts are being made to arrest him,” police said.
Earlier, the accused had threatened the victim with dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone.
