SHILLONG: City resident Lalnunthangi Chhangte will represent India as an educator at the “International Space Camp” (ISC) at Rocket City in the US from July 9-14.
Chhangte will also highlight the Northeast at the grand opening ceremony of the yearly ISC held at the US Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
Huntsville is also home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, Davidson Center for Space Exploration, NASA’s Marshall Institute Educator Resource Center and the world famous Space Camp for students.
ISC brings together educators and students from all over the world to build relationships and challenge themselves as learners and teachers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).International educators participate in a comprehensive programme to promote interest in space science and exploration as well as global cooperation.
Students between the age group of 15-18 years from around the world participate in this weeklong programme where they get to choose from two courses–Aviation Challenge and Advance Space Camp.
International students earn college credit and are challenged both academically and physically through extended duration missions and experiencing microgravity in the Underwater Astronaut Trainer.
At graduation ceremony the participants are handed out certificates by NASA astronauts.
In the past years, Mizoram and Nagaland have represented India at ISC and schools such as ARPS, Laitkor, Shillong, Livingstone Foundation, Nagaland and St. Paul’s Higher Secondary School and Mount Carmel School, Mizoram, have also sent students to undergo training at this World Famous Space Camp.
