Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday directed his to immediately rush to flood-affected areas to take stock of flood situation and step up relief and rescue operations and ensure proper arrangement of facilities for flood affected and relief camp inmates.
As per Chief Minister’s directive while Agriculture Minister Atul Bora will visit Sivasagar, Golaghat and Jorhat, Environment and Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma will go to South Salmara and Goalpara, Water Resouces Minister Keshav Mahanta was directed to visit Nagaon, Morigaon and Hojai, PWD Minister Parimal Suklabaidya to visit all districts of Barak valley, Irrigation Minister Ranjit Dutta and Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley to visit Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswanath and Majuli, PHE Minister Rihon Daimary and Revenue Minister Pallab Lochan Das to visit all the districts of lower Assam.
The Chief Minister directed the ministers to assess the damage caused by flood and erosion and also to interact with the affected and take stock of their needs and grievances.
The Chief Minister issued the directive after chairing a flood situation review meeting with his mistrial colleagues and senior official on Friday.
At least 22 human lives have been lost in the current wave of flood which besides affecting 49 revenue circles and 993 revenue villages covering 17 districts, caused distress to about 4.25 lakh people. The state government has opened 84 relief camps for 22, 641 camp inmates. Meanwhile, Government has opened 93 relief distribution centres in Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Karimganj and Golaghat district.
