JOWAI: The Amlarem Police along with Dawki Police under the leadership of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Jason Mairom had undertaken a march to alert the truck drivers to not break traffic rules, which cause heavy traffic jam in the Jowai-Amlarem-Dawki (JAD) road.
The convoy march, which consist of 4 police vehicles started from Amlarem to Tamabil with an announcement of warning to all truck drivers and Lime stone exporters to follow traffic rules.
The announcement was made from the Public Announcement System of the High Patrol Car that the trucks exporting limestone and boulder stone plying along the JAD road under no circumstances are to overtake in a race to export their materials as this not only causes a huge inconvenience to the general public but it also endangers the safety of the commuters.
“The trucker drivers were given strong warning that hence forth if they still indulge in such practices, they will be booked not only under the various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act but also under various other penal sections of the law for endangering the lives of the commuters on the road,” informed the SDPO, Amlarem, Mairom.
The truckers were also reminded that the highway is not their personal road to use it in whatever way they see fit for their personal benefit but it is meant for the public at large.
Earlier, there was a heavy traffic jam in the JAD Road (NH-40(E) due to reckless overtaking of the Limestone and boulder trucks exporting to Bangladesh to the point where public vehicles were stuck for hours on the road.
“I have also received a complaint that an unwell 10-year-old boy on the way to a hospital in Jowai was also stuck in traffic for over an hour,” the Police officer said.
The traffic jam took Amalarem Police more than 4 hours to clear the traffic.
A complaint was also lodged with the SDO, Amlarem Civil Sub-division in this regard by the concerned citizen.
