SHILLONG: The Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Association has petitioned the Commissioner and Secretary of the Transport Department that the weighbridge at 7th Mile in West Jaintia Hills should be disbanded.
Nidanond Chullet, the president of the association, said three government weighbridges are operating at the entry-exit point of the state.
“Surprisingly, the weighbridge at 7th Mile was installed in the middle of the State and is still functioning. It is only proving to be a burden for truckers and others as well,” said Chullet.
He said trucks which ply on the national highways of Meghalaya have to be weighed thrice for the same transportation.
“In addition, they have to pay triple charges for a single journey and such implementation seems unjust as the 7th Mile weighbridge stands out to be just an impediment causing harassment and superfluous extra charges to truckers,” he added.
