SHILLONG: The task of the search committee to find suitable names for constitution of the Meghalaya Lokayukta is over but the select committee is yet to meet to decide on the names.
An official source said on Saturday that initially five persons had applied for the post of chairperson of the Lokayukta and six for the posts of members. Later, the search committee had called for a few more names and the same were forwarded to the select committee for consideration. The task of the search committee was completed in May.
The first recommended list of names for consideration was submitted by the search panel in April and later a second list was forwarded in May.
Lokayukta consists of a chairperson and four members.
The select committee with chief minister as its chairman is yet to meet to decide on the names though a meeting was convened on May 26 which, however, was postponed.
The Assembly passed the Meghalaya Lokayukta Bill in March 2014 and later in October, the Government had approved the rules for selection and appointment of its chairperson and members.
