TURA: Public assault for misbehaving with a woman after a drinking binge has landed a former GNLA cadre in hospital barely three days after his surrender.
Mustan R Sangma (22), who surrendered in Williamnagar on July 6, had sought leave from police custody on Sunday saying he would visit his family.
But instead of going home, he contacted two other surrendered GNLA members and decided to “party” on the Williamnagar-Samanda road. They were accompanied by three women. Police said they had two dozens bottles of beer in their car.
However, the merry-making turned ugly when Mustan tried to misbehave with one of the women who ignored his overtures.
This led to an altercation and the woman tried to leave the party. The accused allegedly tried his pranks as the vehicle began to move forcing the girl to jump out in Samanda. A drunk Mustan also fell out of the vehicle while attempting to latch on to her.
Alerted by the commotion, a group of locals came to the spot and on seeing Mustan trying to misbehave with the woman started beating him. He lost his consciousness. Others in his group abandoned him.
He was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Williamnagar where doctors referred him to Guwahati.
