SHILLONG: The Seng Samla Malki along with the North East Regional Domestic Workers’ Movement (NERDWM) has urged the State Government to propose the name of 12-year-old Camellia Kharbangar for a National Award for her courageous act of saving her sister from the blazing fire, which had engulfed their house on July 6. Seng Samla Malki, president, Junestar Kharbuli told media persons on Tuesday that the residents of the locality were proud of Camellia’s bravery and wanted her name to be proposed for the bravery award.
Camellia is a student of class VII at Loreto School Shillong. The youth organisation will also organise a relief fund camp on July 14, in three centres to aid both the house owners, T Kharbangar and P Kharmalki, who “lost everything in the fire incident”. The centres will be set up at Bawri Manshon, Malki point and Kharmalki locality community hall.
The organisation has further issued a stern warning to vehicle owners not to park their vehicles on both sides of the road while recalling that the fire truck arrived 15 minutes late due to wrong parking. W Kharsyntiew, programme coordinator, NERDWM urged the State Government to provide financial assistance to the affected families.
