The NIA charge-sheet against Hazarika has formally confirms that he leads the banned outfit. Hazarika, who hails from Samaguri  in Nagoan district in central Assam is currently settled in London .

Hazarika was identified by one of his bodyguards, Gagan Hazarika alias Joydeep Cheleng, who is under arrest.  The NIA charge sheet against Hazarika  has paved the way for Government of India to seek his extradition from UK.

The case was registered at NIA Branch Office here in 2013 based on complaint that  anti-talk faction of United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), led by Paresh Baruah, was out to revive the  terrorist outfit by recruiting new cadres, organizing terrorist camps within and beyond Indian Territories and are resorting to extortion and kidnapping to raise funds for attacking Indian Security Forces, government establishment and infrastructure, thereby intending to wage war against the Government of India.
