SHILLONG: The 13 pressure groups have asked the State Government to come prepared with benami transaction and residents’ safety rules at Wednesday’s meeting to discuss the measures to check influx.
Following a series of arson cases over the railway project, the Government had called the pressure groups for talks.
However, in a reminder letter to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Sunday, the groups said they had enough discussions on the comprehensive mechanism to regulate influx.
“Based on the mutual discussions and understanding, the government had passed two Acts — the Benami Transaction Prohibition Act (Amended) 2016 and the Residents Safety and Security Act. But both are without rules for implementation and hence, we would like that for the discussion to be held on July 19, the government must come prepared with rules of these two Acts so that the discussion would be meaningful and progressive,” it said.
The joint statement of the pressure groups has also said much of the paper works related to the entry and exit points have progressed, but till date, they are yet to see the infrastructural progress of the same.
“Hence, for the discussion to be held on July 19, we would like to see the government to spell out the details of plans with regards to the execution of the project in those areas where there are no hindrances,” the statement said.
According to the
groups, the proposed talks should not be mere updates on the same matter over and over again.
“It seems we are maintaining a status quo instead of being progressive on the issues raised in the past and hence we are sending this advance memorandum with the hope that you will take actions by directing the officers concerned to comply with the same,” the letter addressed to the chief minister said.
