Nongthymmai accepts SMB help in waste management

SHILLONG: The Shillong Municipal Board has made available 12 garbage collection vehicles for as many localities under Nongthymmai area for proper collection and disposal of wastes.
Following the development, Nongthymmai has become the first constituency to accept developmental activities from the SMB despite being out of its jurisdiction.
The 12 localities include Nongrim Hills, Lumsohphoh, part of RR Colony and Lapang, Nongkhyriem, Lawjynriew, Rynjah, Nongshiliang, Lumiablot, Pohkseh, Lumbatngen-Lawusib and Demthring.
To facilitate the move, an agreement was signed with the Urban Affairs department.
The vehicles were distributed by local MLA Jemino Mawthoh on Saturday, CEO BS Sohliya and local headmen were present during a function held at football ground, Nongthymmai.
The localities have taken upon the responsibility to manage the vehicles and salaries of the drivers.
Meanwhile, Nongrah and Lumpyngad will receive their vehicles on Monday.
