NONGSTOIN: Villagers of Shallang have praised Gigur Myrthong, a local businessman who is hoping to contest the 2018 polls on NPP ticket, for fulfilling his promise to repair the kutcha road from NH-44 to Shallang primary health centre.
The villagers said Myrthong repaired the road “in two days whereas there was no response from the Government despite repeated requests to maintain the dilapidated road”.
The headman of Shallang Sohbar A Pormawlein locality, Pascal Nongrum, told media persons on Saturday that the 1km road to PHC was broken and it was difficult for patients to travel on it. “We had urged the local representatives like the MDC and the MLA and even urged the doctor in charge of the PHC to do something about the road but there was no hope,” said Nongrum.
When Nongrum met Myrthong he promised to help them and gave a two-day deadline. The next day, he sent his JCBs, dumper truck and labourers to complete the road. Myrthong said people from outside Shallang criticise him saying he donated money only before election to gain popularity but the allegation is baseless. Myrthong said he will continue his work before or after elections.
The villagers hugged him and poured their blessings on him for the elections.
