TURA: West Garo Police have issued a string of guidelines for two-wheeler and car owners in the wake of rising number of vehicle theft in the district.
The police have warned against parking vehicles on the road and asked owners to look for secure place, preferably an enclosed parking area. It is necessary to lock vehicles.
The police on Saturday night intercepted a gang of motorcycle thieves when they were trying to smuggle out three motorcycles in the bordering areas of Purakhasia. The miscreants escaped leaving the bikes behind.
In May, Tura police had arrested a gang of bike thieves leading to a drastic reduction in such incidents.
But the sudden rise in such incidents last month has compelled Tura police to launch a special operation aimed at containing this menace.
Checking on entry and exit roads in Tura and special police patrols at vulnerable areas have started.
The new parking and safety rules mandate penalty and punishment for flouters under the Motor Vehicles Rules.
“Localities may find self-help type common parking places which may be guarded by personnel deployed in common interest by the community,” a directive stated.
Nokmas and local leaders are requested to appeal and evolve strategies and share and co-ordinate with police and inform to the Control Room Tura about any suspicious persons.
The PCR numbers are +918415897291, +918730065429, +919856142486.
There are other measures that the police are taking to sensitise the public.
