SHILLONG: Alertness shown by a city resident saved the life of a dog that found itself trapped in a drain at Nongrim Hills area of the city on Tuesday. Personnel from Shillong Municipal Board and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department played a crucial role in the rescue of the dog.
A resident of Nongrim Hills heard howling of a dog from a nearby drain on Tuesday afternoon and raised an alarm. When resident popped inside the drain, he saw an injured dog.
As several attempts made to rescue the dog came to a naught, the citizen identified as Vicky Vadera started calling police,108 ambulance service and even forest department for help but all expressed their inability to help the dog.
Finally, it was the Shillong Municipal Board and personnel from the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department who came to rescue the dog
While personnel of the Municipal Board successfully rescued the dog from the drain, officials from Animal and Husbandry department administered first aid to it. Residents of the locality suspected that the dog was remaining trapped since morning and cold not move on its own because of its injuries.
Interestingly, attempts were made to contact the so called dog lover societies who are often found prompt to file FIRs against people assault and kill stray animals, but they did not received the call.
