Agartala: The situation turns volatile in Tripura following Union Minister of State Kiren Rijiju today denied to meet with the representatives of agitating activists of Indigenous Peoples’ Front of Twipra (IPFT) for past nine days seeking separate Twipraland.
Reiterating the same stand of BJP Tripura state committee, Union Home Ministry has made it clear that they would not meet anybody unless the blockade is withdrawn without any pre condition and restore normalcy in the state.
Meanwhile, BJP blocked the movement of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and four of his cabinet colleagues in their official residences demanding resignation of the government alleging the failure of left front government to withdraw the blockade and the allegedly abetting the separate state movement of IPFT.
However, a five member’s delegation of BJP headed by its president Biplab Kumar Deb afternoon met Governor Tathagata Roy and apprised him the stalement situation of the state and deteriorating law and order situation of Tripura and urged him to act immediately.
While requesting BJP to withdraw the gherao of chief minister, Governor assured them he to talk to both state and central government to normalise the situation. However, BJP state committee held an emergency meeting after apprising Governor and stated that the gherao program will continue until new agenda is fixed.
The state administration became almost inoperative due to blockade of Chief Minister for past 12 hours in his house. Besides, BJP other oppositions have also exerting pressure on the state government withdraw the highway and railway blockade, as IPFT began it with the permission of the state.
On the other, IPFT agitators became violent after getting the information that central government refused to meet their representatives. The demonstrators living under bare sky in extreme weather for past nine days having little food on the road and facing severe crisis of basic amenities threatened mass emollition and hanging unless their demand is fulfilled.
The IPFT however, announced to continue their blockade unless reasonable solution comes. (UNI)
