SHILLONG: Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has disapproved of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Acts, 2016 (Entry & Exit Point) asserting that it cannot tackle influx in the state and demanded the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) to deal with the influx issue.
In a press statement, the general secretary of the HYC, Robert Kharjahrin, said, “The organization (HYC) rejects the statement of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma wherein he has said that the setting up of entry and exit point and Facilitation Center for immigrants is similar to ILP. It is misleading as the law will not protect the indigenous community.”
In this connection, the HYC has pressed for the demand to implement the ILP, strong rules on giving residential permit for Immigrants as well as trading and business permit for non-indigenous people and strong measures for prohibition and detection of benami transactions.
The HYC demanded that the cut-off year for implementation of the State Permanent Citizenship Registration Act should be 1971.
It is to be noted that the demand of the HYC is in stark contrast to the demand of KSU which has been demanding setting up of entry/exit points to check influx.
A meet on contentious issue of railway projects in the state and influx is scheduled for Wednesday between the state government and 13 NGOs from the state.
