SHILLONG: The state election committee of NPP, which will be constituted soon, will have a discussion on the chief ministerial candidate of the party for the 2018 polls.
NPP legislator and party spokesperson James Sangma said the party is yet to discuss the matter.
“We will have a discussion first at the state election committee level whether to project any leader as the CM candidate for the 2018 polls,” Sangma said.
To a question, Sangma said the election panel will also decide on the number of candidates to contest the polls.
The NPP leader said the party is studying the constituencies individually before deciding on the candidates.
He also refused to comment on the question regarding the number of leaders from other political parties joining NPP.
‘Bamon’s comment unfortunate’
Sangma said the recent comment of former NPP leader ECB Bamon criticising the current leadership of the party was unfortunate.
“Bamon was a colleague and friend since the inception of the party. We wish him well for the future he aims at. But the comments at the party leadership is unfortunate,” Sangma said.
Last week, Bamon announced his resignation from NPP and criticised the young leadership of the NPP as directionless and having no future.
