SHILLONG: With dissenting voices emerging from the party, UDP president Donkupar Roy said on Friday that the alliance will take care of those who have sacrificed their seats.
On Wednesday, the UDP-HSPDP alliance had released details of seat adjustment to contest the 2018 polls evoking protests.
Unlike the other five party legislators against whom the HSPDP would not field any candidates, sitting UDP MLAs – Remington Pyngrope (Mawkynrew), Titosstarwell Chyne (Sohra) and Brolding Nongsiej (Mawthadraishan) – will have to fight against HSPDP candidates.
Pyngrope has already protested against the seat adjustment and blamed the UDP chief for not giving the same treatment as accorded to five other legislators.
As Mylliem had gone to HSPDP, the UDP unit there is also unhappy over the decision.
However, in his response, Roy said he tried his best to accommodate every legislator and aspiring candidate from the party, but he had to respect the sentiments of HSPDP which had demanded their own candidates to be fielded in certain constituencies.
“If there is no give and take, the alliance will not work and our goal is to defeat the opponents,” Roy added.
Asked about the anger of Pyngrope against the party leadership, Roy said, “I understand his feelings and our commitment is that we will try all means that the sitting MLAs win the polls.”
Roy said in several seats, there will be friendly contests between UDP and HSPDP and ultimately the goal of forming an alternate government in the State should prevail over individual interests.
