SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) leader from Mylliem, Hamlet Dohling, has said he will contest the 2018 Assembly elections and some parties have already approached him.
The statement came after the Coordination Committee of HSPDP-UDP alliance decided to field HSPDP candidate from Mylliem though UDP was pressing for Dohling.
Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Friday, Dohling also said he would discuss the matter with the top leadership and his supporters before taking a call.
On being asked if he would contest the election from other political parties, Dohling admitted that some parties have approached him but the matter will first be discussed with the party leadership and supporters.
According to Dohling, party workers and voters in Mylliem are not happy with the decision of the alliance because he has “worked hard for the last five to six years”.
UDP took the lion’s share in the seat sharing arrangement with its pre-poll alliance partner HSPDP.
MDC Teilinia Thangkhiew is the probable candidate of HSPDP from Mylliem constituency.
In Sohra too, UDP supporters are unhappy over the seat-sharing and are even contemplating switch over to the camp of BJP ticket aspirant PW Khongjee. The open seat announcement for Sohra between UDP and HSPDP has irked UDP supporters who asserted that the high command has doubts on whether MLA Sohra Titosstarwell Chyne will win.
