SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has said it will implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) with the support of traditional heads to ensure that no immigrants enter the Khasi land “illegally”.
HYC has been demanding ILP instead of entry and exit points for better check on influx.
With the Government silent on the issue, HYC General Secretary Robertjune Kharjahrin told media persons on Saturday that it will ensure that no immigrant enters the Hynniewtrep land without the permission of Dorbar Shnong “or else he will be treated as illegal”.
Condemning the refusal of the chief minister to meet the people of the state, Kharjahrin said chief minister means “chief servant” and “we had invited our servant to meet us”.
“But the chief servant’s refusal to come and meet us is a big insult to democracy and also to the chair he is holding which is temporary,” he said.
The group also asked the autonomous district councils to join hands to implement ILP, which will “not be in the spirit of hate against others”.
Kharjahrin said the punishment for illegal settlers will be as per the decision of Dorbar Shnong.
HYC had in February submitted a 14-point demand charter to chief minister Mukul Sangma, 11 ministers, MLAs and political parties.
The group will start its agitation from July 26 by holding black flags in Shillong. A sit-in demonstration will be staged at the parking lot near the Additional Secretariat on July 27 and a discussion with all ruling MLAs on July 29.
