Nagaland remembers its Kargil War Hero

GUWAHATI: Remembering the supreme sacrifice made during the Kargil War in 1999, Major General Sanjay Gupta, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), all ranks of the formation, villagers and family members of Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), along with ex-servicemen paid homage and tribute to the brave son of Nagaland at his memorial located near Nerhema Village, Kohima today, the anniversary of Kargil War victory.

Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, of Nerhema village was born on 15 July 1974. He did his schooling at St Xavier School, Jalukie and graduated from Kohima Science College. He was later commissioned into 2 Rajputana Rifles on 12 Dec 1998. On 28 June 1999 during Kargil War, he attained martyrdom while destroying enemy bunker and killing four enemy soldiers in a commando action. He was later awarded Maha Vir Chakra for his act of bravery which is the second highest military decoration in India. This medal is awarded for acts of conspicuous gallantry in the presence of the enemy, whether on land, at sea or in the air.

The function commenced by laying of wreath at Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, MVC memorial and saluting the martyrs of ‘Operation VIJAY’. The General while addressing the audience stated that how Captain Kenguruse, has remained  a source of motivation and inspiration to all ranks and youth of Nagaland. He further urged the youth to work for the development, security and well-being of the nation.

The function was attended by various military and civil dignitaries including Brigadier Satbir Singh, Deputy IGAR (North), Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu, MLA, Northern Angami-II,  Joseph Hesso, SP,  Kohima, Commandant Rothihu Tetseo pf 10 NAP, school children from Don Bosco and Assam Rifles Public School, and Villagers from various Villages of Chiephobozou Sub-Division.
