SHILLONG: The state election committee of NPP will meet in August to discuss the preparation of the party for the Assembly polls and other issues.
The party will also take a decision whether NPP president and Tura MP, Conrad Sangma, should return to state politics.
Another issue which will be discussed in the meeting is about former Tura MP Agatha Sangma as pressure is mounting on her from party leaders and supporters to contest the upcoming polls.
Agatha has been keeping aloof from politics for some time.
The election committee will also deliberate on the number of seats that the party will contest and the time for calling applications.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, NPP president Conrad Sangma confirmed that all these issues will be the agenda of the election committee of the party.
In the current Assembly, NPP has only two legislators, Conrad’s brother James Sangma representing Dadenggre constituency and Nihim D Shira (Songsak).
Tightlipped on exodus
Sangma, however, refused to divulge anything regarding the question on the plan of several legislators, including those from the Congress, to join NPP.
“I have nothing to comment on the matter,” Sangma said.
