TURA: In response to a clarion call of the Gorkhas of Darjeeling who are demanding a separate Goekhaland State, people belonging to the same community from Garo Hills on Sunday held a ‘Global Gorkhaland Unity March’ in Tura to express solidarity to their fellow Gorkhas.

The march began after prayer by C B Chetry from Nepali Puja Mandap at Akonggre passing through Gurjoo Studio, NPP Office, Members’ Hostel and Babupara before finally ending up the starting venue.

Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC) Chairman, Nikman Ch Marak and other leaders who addressed a gathering after the march urged Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to fulfil the aged old demand of the Gorkhas of Darjeeling by granting  a separate state. They condemned in unison the brutal act of the West Bengal Government to block food supply to Darjeeling and the use of police force.

A large number of the general public including women folk, youths, senior citizens and school students took part in the march.
