TURA: Gorkhas living in Garo Hills came out in support of Gorkhaland on Sunday.
The ‘Global Gorkhaland Unity March’ in Tura began after prayer by C.B Chetry from Nepali Puja Mandap at Akonggre and passed through Gurjoo Studio, NPP Office, Members’ Hostel and Babupara before culminating at the starting venue. The Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC) chairman, Nikman Ch Marak, and other leaders who addressed a gathering after the march, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfil the age-old demand of the Gorkhas in Darjeeling.
They condemned the use of police power on the Gorkhas in West Bengal and the state government’s decision to block food supply to Darjeeling and the use of police force.
