SHILLONG: The former Sordar of Raid Mawshun, Joy James Roy Khongmawloh, has alleged that the election to the post of Sordar was unfair and it should be conducted again.
Addressing reporters on Monday, Khongmawloh said, “The chairman of the election commission, Hillarius Pyngrope, favoured another candidate Lamiki Khongdkhar. It was not conducted in a fair manner.”
Altogether 1,900 voted in the election. A counting agent, Junestwell Syngkrem, said, “The polling officers (from the district council) took out the papers and found that there are 430 slips whereas the total voters’ slips showed that there were 463 voters.”
Syngkrem added that even the polling officers were clueless about the discrepancy.
Khongmawloh alleged that the additional voters’ list submitted by Pyngrope showed names of voters in the age group of 14-16 years.
Moreover, people from outside Raid Mawshun also voted.
According to the former Sordar, the Syiem of Hima Khyriem has already handed over appointment letters (sanad) to Khongdkhar.
He threatened to approach the court if the district council and the Syiem of Hima Khyriem do not resolve the matter.
