PM Modi arrives in Assam to make assessment of  flood situation

GUWAHATI:  The Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived  here  at around 10.30 on Tuesday to take stock of the devastation caused to the lives, property and infrastructure of the state by the recent flood fury.

Immediately after his arrival in Assam Administrative Staff College (AASC) in the city from the airport, Modi got engaged in a meeting with the State council of ministers led by chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and senior officials of the state where Assam government is making a detail presentation on the perennial flood problem of the state besides the devastation caused by the recent wave of flood.

The Prime Minister will spend about three hours in discussing the perennial flood and erosion problem of the state in an effort to find a permanent solution to the problem.

He said the PM is not going for an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas as the flood water had almost receded in many parts of the state. The Prime Minister will also hold a meeting with the legislators of the BJP and its alliance partners Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).

Meanwhile, an official source informed that the PM would hold separate meetings with chief ministers of Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur here tomorrow before he leaves for New Delhi. Both these states have also witnessed devastation of flood and landslides this year.

Assam government as well the BJP’s allies in the state, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) are going to submit separate memoranda to the PM on the problem of flood and erosion in the state.
