Calvin, Ranjeet, Yuvraj and Udayan in semi-finals

Chandigarh, Aug 2 (UNI) Qualifier Calvin Golmei of CLTA defeated his practice partner Sultan Singh Atwal in a three setter 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 men’s singles quarter-final match of the Rs 50,000 CLTA-AITA Natiional Ranking Tennis Tournament at the Sector 10 Stadium here today.
Calvin lost the first set 3-6. Again he was down 1-4 in the second set before bouncing back into the game with a determination. Calvin fought very well and played consistently in the second set. Calvin took next five games in a row and to close the set 6-4. In the final set Calvin was seen in top form and won the l set easily without conceding single game 6-0. Another CLTA trainee Ranjeet Singh defeated Rhythm Malhotra in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Third seed Yuvraj Singh defeated Neeraj Yashpaul in a 3 setter close match. Yuvraj lost 1st set in tie break 6-7(4). Yuvraj bounced back and won the match 6-2, 6-3 in the 2nd and final sets. Qualifier Udayan Bhakar defeated Vaibhav Kundu 6-2, 6-1.
In the women’s singles quarterfinals qualifier Prinkle Singh of CLTA upset 6th seed Nikita Bishnoi in a easy match 6-1, 6-1. Fifth seed Kaavya Swahney defeated 3rd seed Aarushi Bhasin in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. Pareen Shivekar and Muskan Gupta also moved into semifinals.
Prinkel Singh/ Kaavya Sawhney entered the finals of women’s doubles. In the final Prinkle/ Singh/ Kaavya Sawhney will face against winner of Himaanshika/ Aarushi Kakkar or Princy Panchal/ Priyam Kumari. Results Men’s singles (q-finals): Calvin Golmei (Q) bt. Sultan Singh Atwal 3-6, 6-4, 6-0, Ranjeet Singh bt. Rhythm Malhotra (Q) 6-1, 6-1, Yuvraj Singh (3) bt. Neeraj Yashpaul (6) 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-3, Udayan Bhakar (Q) bt. Vaibhav Kundu 6-2, 6-1. Women’s singles (q-finals): Prinkle Singh (Q) bt. Nikita Bishnoi (6) 6-1, 6-1, Pareen Shivekar (Q) bt. Himanshika 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, Kavya Sawhney (5) bt. Arushi Bhasin (3) 6-0, 6-2, Muskan Gupta (8) bt. Smriti Singh (Q) 6-1, 6-0. Quarterfinal Men’s doubles (q-finals): Sumitpal Singh/Sagar Bains bt. Digvijay Singh Mehta/Udai Singh Mann 4-6, 7-6(2), 12-10.
Women’s doubles (s-finals): Himaanshika / Aarushi Kakkar bt. Princy Panchal / Priyam Kumari 6-1, 6-2, Kaavya Sawheny / Prinkle Singh bt. Gayatri Kumariaha / Smriti Singh 6-0, 6-2. UNI
